50 Years of CRS Rice Bowl

Did you know:
"Fifty years ago, Catholics in Allentown, Pennsylvania, organized to bring help to families facing famine in Africa. That help came in the form of a small cardboard box, marking the beginning of “Operation Rice Bowl.” Today, as we celebrate CRS Rice Bowl’s 50th anniversary, the program is a tradition for millions of Catholics in the United States who continue to answer the Gospel call, supporting families experiencing hunger around the world." (crsricebowl.org)
Churches of the Home participating in the CRS Rice Bowl program engage in a meaningful Lenten journey that combines prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The program, organized by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), encourages us to reflect on the challenges faced by those living in poverty around the world. By using the provided Rice Bowl materials, we can deepen our understanding of global hunger and poverty, while also fostering a spirit of solidarity and compassion. This initiative helps Churches of the Home to connect faith with action, making Lent more impactful and spiritually enriching.
Through the CRS Rice Bowl, we are invited to make small sacrifices, such as preparing simple meals and donating the money saved to support CRS's efforts. These donations fund vital programs that provide food, clean water, and other essential resources to communities in need. The act of giving becomes a tangible expression of every Church of the Home's commitment to living out the Gospel values of love and service. Additionally, the program offers educational resources, including stories of hope from around the world, which helps understand the real-life impact of contributions.
Currently, millions of our most vulnerable sisters and brothers are experiencing life-threatening hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition. This crisis is driven by a combination of poverty, climate change, conflict, and inequality.
There isn't a single solution to end the cycle of hunger for every community worldwide, but Churches of the Home can contribute through CRS Rice Bowl by responding to Jesus' call to share bread for life with our sisters and brothers during Lent, so everyone can live with dignity.

"Give Me Just a Little More Time" by Chairmen of the Board
for the Third Sunday of Lent.
Lyrics:
Life's too short to make a mistake
Let's think of each other and hesitate
Young and impatient we may be
There's no need to act foolishly
If we part, our hearts won't forget it
Years from now we'll surely regret it
Give me just a little more time
And our love will surely grow
Give me just a little more time
And our love will surely grow
