Church of the Home for Saturday, October 5

The Month of the Rosary

Why is October the month of the Rosary?

The reason lies in the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7th. This feast day commemorates the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, where a Christian fleet achieved a significant victory over the Ottoman Empire. Pope St. Pius V attributed this victory to the intercession of the Virgin Mary, invoked through the Rosary.

To honor this event and the power of the Rosary, Pope St. Pius V established the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Over time, the entire month of October became dedicated to the Rosary, encouraging the faithful to pray it more frequently.

The Rosary is a series of prayers that facilitates the meditation on the lives of Jesus and Mary. The beads that make up the Rosary are used to count the prayers, which include the Apostles’ Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be.

Importance in Churches of the Home
  1. Spiritual Growth: Praying the Rosary helps deepen one’s faith and relationship with God. It’s a way to reflect on the mysteries of Christ’s life and seek the intercession of the Virgin Mary.

  2. Family Unity: Many families pray the Rosary together, fostering a sense of unity and spiritual bonding. It can be a daily practice that brings peace and harmony to the household.

  3. Calming Presence: The repetitive nature of the prayers can be calming and meditative, helping to reduce stress and bring a sense of peace and tranquility to your Church of the Home.

READINGS FOR THIS WEEKEND’S MASSES

VIRTUALLY SUNDAY REFLECTION

The caring and loving approach of Jesus was a great contrast to the harsh treatment of women and children in biblical times. But today, the innocence of actions modeled after Jesus has been tainted by scandals. We must emphasize the need for a compassionate and appropriate relationship with children, guided by their loved ones rather than religious leaders. How do we achieve this ideal in today's world? Join Tony as he reflects on this weekend's gospel.
